Description

Kapows movie club returns at the end of this month with the 2014 documentary "Do I Sound Gay?" a movie exploring the human voice in its meeting with a culture heavily build on ideals of masculinity and heterosexuality.

"David Thorpe becomes concerned that his gay sounding voice is limiting his opportunities in life. He visits two speech therapists to evaluate his condition and help him gain control of his speaking voice. Eventually he realized that he intentionally changed his voice at about age 17 when he came out and wanted others to know he was gay."

Presenting the movie will be Anna K. Jørgensen.
Anna is a trained linguist and gender studies scholar. Annas research places itself between linguistics and gender studies, focussing on queer and trans language and identity. Among other things, Anna has researched the ’gay lisp’, transgender voices and gender neutral pronouns.
