Description

Freedom of Movements invites you to ‘Resistance and Unity’, a political event and support party for and by people in the struggle against borders, camps, racism, sexism, LGBTQ discrimination and violence. Come for a day of collective reflection and revolutionary introspection, discussion, art and poetry, and dialogue on solidarities, alliances, coalitions, unity through our differences, and visions that can guide our struggle for a different world.

The power structure continues to maintain and defend its hierarchies of race, class, gender and sexuality with ever more political, economic, psychological and military violence. Violence against muslims, black people, undocumented and refugee people, LGBTQ communities of colour, poor people and women of colour. Yet the landscape of struggles against the power structure has also grown bigger and stronger: initiatives, collectives, organisations and people continue to emerge and engage in crucial struggles for freedom, justice and human dignity. We must therefore ask the crucial question: How do we work, organise and mobilize together? What are moments of connection and convergence in our political work? How do we support each other, make each other stronger, respecting our differences and priorities, in connected struggles?

At Freedom of Movements we understand that for our struggles to be powerful, they have to be intersectional and driven by new visions that come from community building, grassroots organising and through the weaving of networks of solidarity and support that can open up alternatives to the present order of things. Without new visions, we don’t know what to build, only what to knock down. We therefore invite you to a day where emphasis can be put on the underlying issues that our communities face and the ways in which we can work together and make each other’s struggle stronger.

The event will feature a long collective conversation where different
groups, initiatives, collectives and people will dialogue on their struggles and the strategies we can use to be unified in resistance.
There will also be art and poetry by people whose work speaks truth to power, a community dinner and music. After the event, we will throw a party for you all, with concerts and DJ's to dance all night. Let’s get together and commune with people from different communities and start the new year in unity, resistance and struggle! Power to the people !
